In the street of shops of religious systems and ideas, you cannot just 'walk up the road a bit' and find one in which there sits a real God with a simple and complete explanation of all reality.
So once you have realized that all of the mainstream branded religious systems are not merely 'fishy' but indeed many of them are incredibly dangerous and false - still once you 'leave those shops' so to speak, you will find that you are walking along a lonely street, alone, and the gathering darkness of early evening is beginning to fall across your path.
You do not have a torch (not just 'the batteries have run out,' but the one you had is broken anyway), there are no street lights, not even any old-fashioned gas lamps being lit by some kindly old gentleman in a London Fog overcoat.

It is time for us to deal with some most important, some key ideas, and which lead to rather amazing things, but that also require some very necessary preparations beforehand.
Unfortunately, it is better to still look at the problematic systems first (before waving wands and doing magic) - those common ones that almost everyone thinks or 'believes' are right and true and so forth; because once you have seen into them at their core, you will draw back with horror and disgust. And then, it will be easier to understand the other side of the picture.
We live in what is called a 'carnal world,' but no one really explains what that is in its absolute theological sense.
Right up front, in the Book of Genesis the world of living things is separated into FOUR categories:
1. Predators
2. Prey
3. Livestock
...And 'MAN.'
And when the development and progress of Man was interfered with, 'Man' moved across into those other first three categories and moves around in those depending on different factors and circumstances.

One of the missing ideas in the current discussions online about Aliens, is that they (the people talking) don't seem to have given much thought to the aspect of our own progress in technology today, and that many scientists think AI is or can become, 'conscious;' and then that heck, maybe the Aliens already walked that path and some have been adversely affected by what subsequently happened. ...And that maybe even, they have already been here and introduced such AI systems to the human race long long ago.
I mean it cannot (meaning AI cannot become conscious), but that does not obviate what 'scientists' want to foist onto the public.
However, it is very possible to posit that there existed long ago, some highly technically-advanced race and species, not human, perhaps human-like, that had fully bought into the whole AI thing itself and was running its own systems, especially its social and political systems, on its versions of AI.
We humans use line-coding (programming) ourselves within our own brains - but we use words to convey ideas from external sources, be those books, machines, or other people -, not number codes.
Let's go back to Genesis.
All natural human beings - aka 'Mankind' beings - have at least two innate qualities: they are 1. innately as a living dynamic qualia of themselves -, attracted to Good, and they have 2. the natural capability to discern Truth.
But - many of the large-scale systematic 'religions' interpose or lay-over, programming code which distorts, tunes down, bleeds out, or simply obscures, humans' natural abilities to discern, to reason, and to be naturally attracted to Good Things whether ideas, beings, or constructed objects.

By playing on the first basic and simple substrate of Man's innate unconditional attraction to Good - these systems all trade on human emotions and people's feelings by suggesting that if you 'disobey' (something they have inserted as a substitute for your own innate qualia of 'Good') then you are or you must be betraying 'Good/ness.' And then because people's emotional psychology short-circuits rational linear thinking, generally people fail to see that the actual 'programmed code,' or the rules and laws and systems being proffered are mischievous, problematic, wrong.
Sometimes it is all out there in the open to see, but still, people refuse to see (because of the blind emotional driver aspect operating full-time), and fall into the programming coding trap being laid.
If you take the Quran, right out in the open, it says - and this is affirmed by leading scholars and interpreters like al-Saadi, in his Tafsir of Imam al-Saadi - that people must simply chose sides, and that Allah himself directly incites and then leads some people to the 'wrong' side deliberately. Choosing a side, is not the same as having an innate qualia of Goodness! Instead it is 'game coding' like in a computer of 'two arbitrary sides.'
But Goodness is not arbitrary. It IS. It is a permanent, unchanging Logical Fact not subject to selection or choosing, only recognizing and acknowledging, and harmonizing with. You don't choose it - you become it; you are it.
The Book of Genesis says that Original Natural Man knew no falsity (or 'sin' except there is no word 'sin' in there), and was naturally and by inclination drawn always to the Good.
And the New Testament goes on to quite literally say that 'Original Natural Man' was interfered with by outsiders... Something was 'sown into the living field' alongside the 'good seed.'
That does not mean he no longer has the capacity for good, it means he is in a different place. With lesser roles than he started out having. He can get back.
He's been messed around with. But his order can be restored.
The false coding says: 'Slave you were born and slave you shall always be...' So we have a more experienced, more knowledgeable outside, not-human, entity messing around with the Human Creation. And taking control of it. Dominating it, ruling over it.
I will show you the converse of that soon, when real humans, gain back their real and original power.
These things go back a long way prior to modern conceptions of modern(ish) religion, including well before the Bible.

To this day lots of people insist such-and-such was composed in Aramaic, or that so-and-so spoke Aramaic.
At the relevant time however, Aramaic had only 650 words. It was just a street merchant's patois.
There are some ancient parchments such as 'the Words of Ahiqar' supposedly written in Aramaic (was actually in Demotic Egyptian), and people say (IE they think, but they are completely wrong) that this was the prototype of the Biblical Book of Proverbs, for example.
However the Book of Proverbs comes line-for-line as far as the actual 'proverbs' themselves go, from the extremely ancient (maybe a thousand years earlier!) Egyptian 'Instruction of Amenemope;' and from which the so-called Aramaic version was a recension.
The Quran is human program code written in words. It is literally an Artificial Intelligence system cast across humanity.
It is not alone by any means.
But what is its counter-point?
To answer that we can ask: Well, if not Predator, Prey, or Livestock, what then is a human being?
Or, what is that human being who is neither Predator, Prey, nor Livestock.
Let's say an Orb came down, right into your front yard, and a humanoid stepped out of it, and waved its hand and said 'Hi.'
Still, how much (and quite unnatural) program code will you be forcing to the front of your responses? You will doubt them (the Aliens; putatively that) and you will be suspicious. And you will refer to an entirely false, artificial - book, text, system, social and political/religious program encoding you got from your society from birth, in place of your own natural ability to discern by direct application of your own logic in an interaction. You will be working from a structure overlaid across your mentality and your brain; not from you yourself.

Because you are used to 'Prey-Predator' relationships even in society...
To be honest then, what kind of fucking stupid dishonest society have you been living in?!
...Pretending and thinking that it was all reasonable and natural. The fact is, human beings have become highly unnatural.
I am not up to past the last few pages I mentioned here, of MacLaine's book, but if I were to guess what comes next, I would think she would talk about something generated from within, as in literally from some hidden source inside a natural human being themselves, and not, just being sent in there from 'God' or from 'the Divine,' and from outside all the time only.
A human being is something fully in the image of the Divine. And that means it does have power inside it.
That doesn't make it 'God' but it does allow it 'God-power.'
The first person you need to bow to, if you cannot find the shop-front in which actual 'God' sits and His selling or vending counter - is yourself.
There is God in there.
And then when you can see that, and find it, then it is easier but not common however, to find it and see it in others. And oh my gosh, will you ever find an enemy system fully-installed inside a lot of things walking around, masquerading as humans! 
'Carnal' means being one of the three animalistic categories: Beast, Hiding Thing, Producing Livestock.
Many carnal 'people' drive around in expensive cars. And that is because they have made a lot of prey-animals provide them with material benefits, not to mention that they harvest from humans as producing livestock as well.
Does this mean you cannot have a Ferrari?
No.
Far from it.
These are very fine words 'But seek ye first, the Kingdom of Heaven, where no moth eats the fabric of your clothes, nor rust, the metal of your Ferrari,' but what do they mean, practically-speaking?
Man is not the 'thinking animal.' For if he were the thinking animal, things would be a lot better here on the planet.
Original MAN was the Writing Being. He made things happen by understanding. Not just by 'thinking.' Thinking, on its own, can take you into the Cuckoo Land of programmer's f*'d-up code and 'Artificial Intelligence' (a kind of thinking).
First you need to inject the Force that springs like a well of Living Water from Within. And you need to understand, what you are doing, and what all the likely consequences are going to be.
And then...
SO LET IT BE WRITTEN!
SO LET IT BE DONE.
'It is written (in the Sacred Scriptures and Scripture cannot be broken) that you are gods, and so indeed you are (gods), but like princes of the Earth, you shall fall.'
That just means when you have been moved into the three categories of the carnal creatures of the Earth.
When you discover what is the nature of those Living Waters, what they do, what their qualia entails, you will be able to direct that energy, that flow, and you will do things you haven't ever dreamed you can do...
