Last night I stayed up all night, because theoretically, the Southern Taurid Meteor Shower was going to peak over here.
I was waiting, I was waiting, looking, staring.
Going back inside briefly, and then coming out again - looking up at the stars. They were supposed to be showing up very visibly from 'between 1 am to 3 am.' Fireballs. Green, fireballs.
Nothing.Only for super-wealthy people.
Not so much about patience in the end but being unwilling to cut out 'too early.'
LOL
Was already 3:35...
Ah darn it. I have a very good view up here, from horizon to horizon. Absolutely nothing.
What the heck, the internet was talking rubbish. Same with the newspapers that carried the fairy tale. No 'Southern Taurids' peaking here!
A few years ago I caught the Geminids and the Perseids, and they were amazing, running for over half an hour each stream; maybe longer with a couple of sporadic late and early meteors.
Admittedly, there are a lot more meteors in the Geminids and Perseids compared to what is expected for the Taurids but I saw absolutely nothing at all. I could have missed it... During the brief times when I wasn't looking upwards.
It was still too early for the near rising sun to illuminate satellites.
I went back inside and 'did a few things' The things I told you about already.
And insistently, I went back outside for one last look.
Right overhead, directly vertically, there was one bright red flash at a little higher than satellite 'height.' And then, a few seconds later another similar very bright red explosive flash in the same spot. I quickly ducked back inside and grabbed one of my laser lights and went back outside again (we are talking on the top balcony of a multi-storey building on a hill) - and flashed a blue laser at the spot where I figured the flashes came from.
...Another very bright red flash, like a warning light on a fire truck - but just one of them - in the relative darkness of a cloudless and starry night. Exact same spot.
'Ah.' I thought. 'My guys. Not a satellite. Not the Taurids.'Italian Winter Marathon Car Rally.
Was held a couple of years ago.
Not enough rich people to run it again this
year, I think.
And then, nothing, same as the hours before.
When you are waiting for natural phenomena, often you need patience and you can still be disappointed all the same.
When you are engaging with intelligent responders, you don't need patience. You need to do it right, and you have to be aware that there is a lot of opposition too.
Book of Daniel: 'It took me a whole month to get through to you, I had to fight my way here and I expect to have to battle my way back as well...'
You are rare and you are few.
This song is Blue Moon, right. Isn't it?
LOL
I love how you say in the text “making stuff from your general stores shelves”. It’s impossible to find anything on shelves these days and online is everything Temu and other bullsh*t stores. Where has the quality gone and why don’t people care about what things are made of anymore?
ReplyDeleteI’m up a lot at 330am by myself looking up, so maybe I just have to keep being patient. Oh and I borrowed my husbands glasses and turns out I need my own, lol. Unless I can find a good grocery cos that co ingredient is good for eyesight!
I remember when a take out coffee was about 5 bucks. I spent 9.50 on one this week. Wages have not kept up. Why am I laughing? I need friends. Good friends.
I'm tellin' ya - we need a UFO landing pad, with giant laser beacons to summon them. I think it's our only hope.

Frankly, I'm surprised you didn't link to Cream's "White Room"...
