Induction Into The Secret Colleges

It was narrated once that the Maulana al-Bhalki (Rumi) said that the rubab was the best instrument of music for the one worthy of the science and practice of mystical meditation and contemplation upon the deepest mysteries of the Universe, and that he himself was wont to have it played right throughout the night as he went into contemplative trance.

The words of the wise, are sweetness
to the ears of the blind.
(I made that up, so it's
rubbish; did you notice?)

"For we have fallen into that place,

Wherein everything is Music."  Rumi.

It was said that the occult Sufi master - as many such masters and adepts of these 'hidden colleges;' the tariqas - was able to be in different locations far apart from each other, and transport material objects between those places all at the one and the same time; as well that he was able to transmute humble stone into the finest and most expensive ruby.

Master over the Djinn, friend of the angels, bestower of good things upon men, the sheikh in charge of the occult and esoteric colleges appeared to outsiders to be a great practitioner of magical arts - whereas, he himself would point out to anyone who inquired directly, that it was the vision granted by induction into the lodge - or college, since all the members were collegiate there - by Divine Providence and Wisdom, to observe that God was present in all things, and that the ignorant saw only the surface appearances, and that it was on account of being able to discern the god, and commune with the Divine Presence, that the various prodigies of the Sufi Master happened at all.

In standard Sunni Islam, the musical instruments are all banned, especially the stringed ones, which are said to evoke deep emotions.

Syrah wine with calligraphic verses of
Rumi on the polished wooden presentation box.

In standard Sufism, the drinking of wine is forbidden, and yet there are numerous Sufi poems in honor of wine, and praising its powers to invite truth.

Human beings are nothing if not self-contradictory and riddled with hypocrisy and deception, whenever it suits them to toss out whatever rule they claim to have so long as it advantages them in some way that they can use as justification for their scandalous sanctimony.

In standard life you will never see a carpet fly, nor yet a genie appear before you in material reality, and neither will you have the Divinity grace you with the winning prize in this week's lottery on account of your having praised them so well, or bowed your head to the ground sufficient times with enough ardor.

Nothing works, all is vanity.

Day after day everything is the same. The same as it ever was.

Nothing is new and fresh each day on and one forever.

For if it were, you would be in Heaven, and would have fallen into that very place, where everything is Music.

LOL

    1. The truth is this is really really complicated - and will have to constitute a whole Blog post next up to render any kind of justice to its true meaning.
